Autism Consultation
Eligibility Criteria
Autism Consultation is available to individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Children/youth ages 0-18 years
- Confirmed diagnosis of Autism
- Must be registered with OAP (if client is not registered, Autism Consultant can support in this area)
Services
- Building Capacity – for guardians/caregivers and system providers of children and youth involved with autism. This includes but is not limited to:
- Increasing knowledge and understanding of autism, applied behavioural analysis, data collection, and the implementation of treatment recommendations, to reduce risk of placement breakdown.
- Capacity building and training within Outside Paid Resources where children and youth with autism are residing.
- Training for other caregivers and/or system providers that is not client specific.
- Bridging communication between the public and private sector and between home and community to ensure positive and comprehensive planning for children and youth with autism that considers all services being delivered and all recommendations.
- Work with private autism service providers to understand client specific treatment goals and recommendations.
- Participation at child-specific case conferences to problem-solve gaps in service and next steps, and offer supports across the district, including in rural areas, in both official languages (where possible), as well as to Indigenous families.
- Does not require involvement with child welfare however, in the event of a waitlist, priority is given to children/youth involved with child welfare and at imminent risk of breakdown.
Service delivery in these areas may include, but is not limited to, providing workshops and presentations, working collaboratively to support positive approaches for children and youth with autism across different environments, and helping to ensure their active participation in all areas of life.
Referral Pathways
Referrals to the Autism Consultant could occur through multiple pathways:
- Externally from service providers with youth/caregiver consent.
- Externally from parent/guardian.
- Internally through any services offered at CCN.
